Google 的硬碟故障原因分析
Google 的三位專家在 5th USENIX Conference on File and Storage Technologies (FAST 2007) 發表了一篇論文，Failure Trends in a Large Disk Drive Population 分析了十萬台以上故障硬碟的原因，這些硬碟都是非企業級的一般PATA/SATA, 5400 ~ 7200 rpm, 80 ~ 400 GB, 2001 年後上線，資料收集期間為 2005/12 ~ 2006/8。
研究的結論是：跟以前的研究結論相反，溫度與故障率找不到顯著關聯，而存取頻率也無關。SMART 部分參數有參考價值，但是要用 SMART 來預測故障，還有困難。
